Montjuic
Montjuic, called Hill of the Jews after a Jewish necropolis there, gained fame in 1929 as the site of the World's Fair and again in 1992 as the location for the summer Olympic Games. It's main attractions are the Olympic installations, the Spanish Village and the hilltop fortress.
La Sagrada Familia
The monumental church El Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Family) is Gaudí's most famous work. It began in 1828 and is still in construction now. The project is funded totally by donations.
Port Vell & Aquarium
Before the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, the Port Vell, the city's old obsolete harbor was run down. In one of the most drastic urban renewal projects, the area was transformed into a yacht basin and entertainment center, opening the city up to the sea. Among the attractions there is the aquarium.
La Pedrera
Casa Mila (Mila House) also known as La Pedrera (the quarry), is an apartment building. It was built between 1906 and 1910 for the Mila family The last example of Gaudi's civil architecture. It is one of his finest and most ambitious creations, extraordinarily innovative in its functional, constructive, and ornamental aspects.
Ramblas & market
This tree-lined pedestrian thoroughfare runs from Plaza Catalunya to Barcelona’s port district, and is a major attraction. It’s called Las Ramblas because it consists of five different Ramblas or boulevards one after the other. A casual walk down Las Ramblas is a must for all tourists. It’s a wonderful, vibrant part of the city where street vendors and performers vie for your attention.
Girona
Girona is a walled city of Roman origin, located at a strategic point on the route between the Pyrenees and Barcelona. It boasts a medieval ensemble of great importance and interest, where narrow streets and spectacular monuments harmoniously combine. The cathedral and its treasures symbolize the dominant role of the church in the Middle Ages.
Barri Gotic
The Barri Gòtic is the centre of Barcelona, where the city originated, and where the main public buildings are located.
Architecture, Gaudi, Avenue Discontent
Apart from La Pedrera and La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi has many interesting designs throughout Barcelona. Gaudi is far more known than any other architect in Barcelona.
Tibidabo
Tibidabo gets it name from the bible. When Satan tempted Jesus by showing him all the riches of the world from a mountain top, he said "...haec omnia tibi dabo si cadens adoraveris me" which means "All this I will give you if you fall down and worship me" The name tibidabo is a reference to the spectacular views.
Park Guell
Gaudí planned and directed the construction of the park from 1900 to 1914 for Eusebi Güell as infrastructure and facilities for a residential garden city. It was unsucessful and only 2 houses were built.
