Mongolia

Ger Camp
After arriving in Ulaanbaatar by train, we were met by our guide Soyool and driver Gamba. They took us to Terelj National Park where we spent the night in a Ger (traditional Mongolian dwelling) Camp. The scenery in this national park is awesome. The sky is so blue and there are very interesting natural rock formations.
Nomadic Herders
The Mongolian nomads are often called "Five-animal people" because the nomadic society is based on the five principal animals traditionally herded: horses, camels, cattle, sheep and goats. The horse is the most important of the five animals and most Mongolians can ride from an early age. We visited with a nomadic family at their winter camp and watched them milk the horses. We were also treated to tradition Mongolian tea and snacks.
Ulan Bator / Ulaanbaatar
Ulan Bator, or Ulaanbaatar, is the capital of the republic of Mongolia. Its population is estimated at 961,900, about third of the national population. Ulan Bator is located slightly east of the center of Outer Mongolia on the Tuul Gol (or Tola) River, a subtributary of the Selenga, in a valley at the foot of the mountain Bogda Uul. In UB we visited the Gandan Monastery, Buddha Park, Sukhbaatar Square and the monument for the Russian soldiers.
UB to Terelj National Park
These photos were taken along the way from Ulan Bator to Terelj National Park. Some were taken from a moving vehicle through glass. Eagles are use for hunting in Mongolia and along the way we stopped by this 'Art Shop' where the guy let us play with their eagles. Then we bought some souvenirs from the shop.
Ulaanbaatar to Irkutsk
These are pics from the train journey from UB to Irkutsk. Not very good quality.
