Brooklyn Historical Society. Founded in 1863, the Brooklyn Historical Society's building was erected in 1878-81 as one of several important institutions that made this part of Brooklyn Heights the cultural centre of Brooklyn. The distinctive building, designed by George B. Post, contains a spectacular library and offers wonderful exhibits and programmes on Brooklyn history.
